Is it possible to raise TA and lower pH?

I hadn't considered that. I will increase the calcium levels and see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion!

Is it possible to raise TA and lower pH?

Thanks for all the replies! Based on the great responses I got here, I did a little more investigating and am now looking in a new direction. So, thank you once again. This is my first pool, so everything's still a little new to me. So, without adding any new chemicals, I noticed that sometimes...

Is it possible to raise TA and lower pH?

Hello all! I had previously gotten my pool "balanced" and with a pH level of 7.5. Everything looked and felt great. However, lately I've been having some mild eye irritation and the water tastes a little different to me. It's hard to describe the taste, but it's unpleasant, almost like a faint...

Air bubbles in the return lines

I didn't even know the pump had a drain plug! OK, I'll check there as well. Thanks!

How can you tell when the water is sanitized?

Great, thanks a lot guys! Someone will be very happy to hear this! :) -Dave

How can you tell when the water is sanitized?

OK, I hate to even ask this question, but I'm at the tail end of the shocking process, and somebody REALLY wants to use the pool with some friends and their kids tomorrow. I can now see the bottom of the pool in the deep end, and CC is typically zero or near zero in my testing. I'm going to do...

Air bubbles in the return lines

OK, good to know. I'll definitely look into repairing that part of the plumbing. Are you talking about that little window area right before the impeller in the pump? If so, yeah, there are a whole bunch of air bubbles in there. What's it supposed to look like? Just straight water? When I...

Any way to test just CC using Taylor K-2006 test kit?

Thanks, chem geek! Since the resolution on that test is 1.25 ppm, I think I'll stick with the other method since I need closer to 0.5 ppm. But it's good to know the test exists! -Dave

Air bubbles in the return lines

So I've got air bubbles coming out of the return lines into the pool. When I start the pump, I leave the air vent on the filter open until water comes out, and then I close it (I learned that on this site). Everything looks great, and then about 10-15 minutes later, I've got quite a few air...

Any way to test just CC using Taylor K-2006 test kit?

Thanks for all the great input. This morning, the pool was blue instead of green. Progress! It's still not clear, though. Hopefully that will come with a little more time. The pool was clear when we bought the house, but I am worried that the filter might be too old or too far gone to get it...

Any way to test just CC using Taylor K-2006 test kit?

For now, but I need to test the CC to know when to stop. Those are the tests that are going to really kill my reagent! Right now I'm diluting my samples. :) Thanks again for the help. Not many people out there understand the finer details of using/preserving/ordering reagent.

Any way to test just CC using Taylor K-2006 test kit?

Whoa, I was just looking at that exact product on Amazon! You are right, it's probably too much, but it's the same price as just a couple of the 2 oz bottles, which is probably too little. This is definitely a deal for anyone shocking the pool! Thanks for the link! The same seller charges more...

Any way to test just CC using Taylor K-2006 test kit?

OK, thanks for the info. I guess I should order some more reagent then. That's going to be one killer of a test! :) Thanks again.

Any way to test just CC using Taylor K-2006 test kit?

Hello all, Is there any way to use the Taylor K-2006 test kit to test CC without going through the FC titration process? The reason I ask is that with the CC test tied to the FC test and FC levels at 20 ppm or higher, it would take 100 drops of titration just to get the chance to perform the...

just purchased a home with pool - algae, high CYA, no FC

Thanks jblizzle. After sleeping on it, I've decided not to let the pool guy near my pool. Last night he said that chlorine does not kill algae, algaecide does. That right there should be a red flag. Chlorine in the right dose, as I understand it, can kill just about any organic matter. And, as...
