Sand filter let's silt through? Alternative media?

Give the addition of DE a try. I did that w/ sand in my filter & now w/ Zeosand in my filter. Get a bag of the synthetic DE, it's cheap. I believe the occasional addition of DE has improved my fine filtering when I needed it. Certainly didn't hurt anything. BTW, I've been using Zeosand for a...

Will Heat Make PVC Glue Release?

I need to replace a leaky piece of PVC flex pipe. It's glued to a PVC stub connector and I've got no room to trim either pipe & place a new connector. Can I use a heat gun to heat up the flex pipe and pull it off the connector stub it's glued to? Thanks!

    Hayward SP0714T Multiport Leaking

My multiport valve was leaking so I replaced the spider gasket. Still leaking. What now? Replace the diverter only, or the key, cover, and handle assembly? Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Pool water hits 93 !

Marty, you might want to get a sharper estimate of the volume of your pool to keep from wasting chemicals. If it was a true 30X60 w/ an average depth of 5 feet, it would contain just less than 70K gallons. Just a thought. Cheers!

    Elks Pool

Vince, I've been enjoying your saga and feeling bad for ya that there's so much of your labor in this "labor of love" you're taken on. Here's an idea that I use and it might ease your labors--you could brush the walls & floor while you're in the pool. It'll sure be cooler that brushing from the...

electric heat pump for 75,000 gallons ?

Wow! Almost 18'--that's something!!! You've got everything big w/ that pool, except the heater. I've got a Pawley's Island rope hammock w/ a stand like that and it's only about 10' long. That's what I was using to estimate the size of yours. Good luck figuring out the # of gallons in that...

electric heat pump for 75,000 gallons ?

Marty, Are you sure of the 30' X 60' dimensions? Looking at the picture in your post #13 and figuring that hammock frame to be about 9, maybe 10', long, it looks like your pool might be closer to 20' X 40'. That would still be a big residential pool, but 30' X 60' is huge. Not trying to be...

    Filter sand in pool

Even though I've got a Hayward S244T and you've got that Pentair, I've got to think that any filter losing 1 or 2 cups of sand per backwash has got to have something wrong with it. Sometimes I might lose a teaspoon, sometimes none. Does rinsing for 30-60 seconds after backwashing make any...

What do you use to measure your chemicals?

I'm w/ Jason. Some jugs even have graduated markings to simplify estimating. I did buy a measuring cup w/ a built-in digital scale for weighing dry chemicals. Found it online, seems to work fine, wasn't expensive. As gadgets go, it's good, but I don't brag on it like I do my 5-star gadget, the...

    Sand Filter Problems

Well, I can't speak for everyone, merely share my experience. I've owned & maintained my current pool since 1994. When I had to replace my filter in 2009, I switched from silica sand to Zeosand. I'm not sure that Zeosand performs better than sand, but it's certainly no worse. I maintain the...

    Sand Filter Problems

In a filter that size, it wouldn't be too expensive to give Zeosand a try.

    Polaris Feed Hose Too Stiff???

My 380 is about 20 years old. I've tuned it up more than once w/ the Tune-Up Kit. It's been working better than ever this year, mostly when the heater's on. But, with the pool temp over 80, I'm not running the heater lately. 380 had a couple of leaking swivels, so I replaced 2 this year. Now...

    Slow?

Cox kept telling me to upgrade to a docsis3 cable modem. Since I needed better range in the house, I upgraded w/ a new Motorola Surfboard. Fixed my range problem, but I can't tell that it made any difference in my internet speed. Can't see what benefits docsis3 provides.
