    Paranoid or Pool Snob?

Outside of this forum, if you ask 10 different pool people how they maintain their pool you'll probably get 10 different answers. I never offer advice to someone who doesn't ask for it. Do I think they way I do it is right? Yes, but it's right for me. If someone does it different and they...

When are you adding chlorine ?

Once everything is good and I'm in maintenance mode, I add chlorine once the sun has gone down. My theory is the more time it has before the sun starts burning it off the better.

CYA went down to zero over the winter. Why? What is the best CYA product to bring it back up?

My CYA goes to 0 over the Winter each year as well. I use a granular chlorine stabilizer by Clorox that seems to dissolve and be good in about 36-48 hours.

Name of this PVC pump fitting?

Is it a special type of union specific to pool pumps? I disconnected the white union in the middle of the flex pipe and tried connecting it to the pump. It threads on, but it gets to the point I can no longer tighten it and the pipe still has what feels like 1/2" of play. The black union...

Name of this PVC pump fitting?

I'm needing to replace the hose between my pump and my filter. I plan to replace the 1.5" flex line with a 1.5" sch 40 hard line. The pump accepts two types of fittings. The style on there now, which looks like half a union that screws on the threads on the outside of the pump fitting or a a...

Can timer damage pump with bad capacitor?

Attached is a pic of my pump. It's a Waterway SD-20-2N11MD. The capacitor I use is the "TEMCo 50 uf/MFD 370 VAC Volts Round Run Capacitor 50/60 Hz AC Electric" from Amazon. I purchased one on May 15, 2018 and then bought another one to replace it on July 22, 2019. I'll have to check the pump...

Can timer damage pump with bad capacitor?

I'm thinking about putting my pump on an Intermatic T101R timer. My concern is what happens if the timer turns the pump on, but the pump isn't able to start due to a bad capacitor? For the past few years, my pump capacitor will go out at some point during the season. When this happens, the...

    hard pipe hookups

I would use a short piece of flexible hose for the last connection between the pool and hard piping.

Stain on bottom of vinyl pool

When I bought the house 2.5 years ago, the stain in the attached picture already existed at the bottom of the pool. I didn't give it much thought since you can't feel it when rubbing your foot across it. I'm not 100% sure, but I think I'm getting another stain spot that looks similar in color...

Wanda the Whale - Replace Pod Foot Spring?

The previous owners of my house left Wanda the Whale behind. She's seen better days and needs several new parts, so I'm debating on fixing her or punting her in the trash. A spring for one of the feet is missing from a pod. Is it possible to buy a new spring and replace just that piece...

    Questions about Pump Switch Wiring

While I find a new switch, can I hard wire the pump by running the green to the ground screw, the white to the C - Common and the black to the H - High and turn it on/off by using the plug at the outlet? The old switch was wired as follows. Green to ground screw on pump, white to off/center...
