yeah - it's at least bright orange. but closer to red than yellow. I'll try the diluted method tonight (after I check it again). Hopefully the sun will beat it to death today and give me a better result. so is it safe to swim in?

so if my total chlorine should be some shade of yellow, and it's actually closer to a shade of red that measures the pH, is that safe to swim in?

good info. i'm thinking of splurging on a better kit. the walmarts in this area only sell aqua chem products and they aren't the easiest to read. i just got back today and tested the pool. The pH was about 7.1, so I added about 14 oz of borax. The chlorine was off the chart still...

So I should have upped the pH before shocking? I see that I typed 7.5 - it actually read 7.6. I'll check it Tuesday when I get back (first thing) and add some Borax if necessary. Should I shock it when I get home, or just add a little chlorine to treat it?

I did get a 3 way test kit (they didn't have the 6 way) at walmart. so i can at least test the chlorine an pH. If I can find the 6 way, I'll do that. I'll definitely keep an eye on it and probably test it everyday until I get a handle on things. the pool was looking very good this morning...
