Turns out the culprit was "fluff" from the neighbors cottonwood tree. Although I have the wall skimmer, it is getting through and clogging the hair filter on the motor. Guess I will have to keep a closer eye on that. Wanted to post update in case anyone else ever runs across the same issue.

The water was coming out of the lid.
