Winterizing, how do you protect the main center pool drain?

I live in Iowa and for the past 15 years I have pumped about 5 gallons of antifreeze into the main drain line and just closed the valve. Antifreeze is heavier than water so it will sit towards the bottom of the drain. Freeze line here is 3.5 ft. and the main drain is about 9 ft. down. Maybe the...

    Auto Chlorinator

I have a Hayward and found that the tube inside the unit starts to scale up pretty good over time. I purchased a gun cleaning kit that has a handle and 3 different sizes of wire brush attachments. Works great for cleaning out the tube. Bruce

My Pentair Legend Platinum sucks... no really, it sucks

I have a Letro Legend II which is the older model of the one that you have. It has worked well since day one and I have been very happy with it for the past four years. This is my first automatic cleaner so I don't have anything to compare it to but it has never had any of the problems that you...

Chlorinator O Rings - Routinely Replacing

I have a Hayward chlorinator as well. Every three to four years the O-ring gets stretched out from use and the only thing that I have found to fix it is to buy a new one. Use silicon lube on the o-ring every time that you take the lid off and be sure to break the "pressure seal" when opening the...

    sun vs. shade

Mine is in the full sun all day and I would not want it any other way. After all, you can create shade but not sun.

    Favourite Pool Toys

I have a vinyl lined pool and after a couple of days with the Toypedo, I noticed that there were a lot of dents in the walls from this toy. I would suggest not using it in a vinyl lined pool. It was a fun toy while it lasted!!

    Favourite Pool Toys

I have a vinyl lined pool and we used the Toypedo for about a week and then noticed that if it hit the wall, it left a good sized dent! I would suggest only use this toy in a concrete pool.

Can't anyone design a decent telepole?

I have a lever-lock pole from WalMart that I purchased a couple of months ago. However, it pushes together a little when vacuming but not as bad as the twist-lock type. The only problem I have with the one from WalMart is that by the time you get it extended out, the last section is kind of thin...

    Stuck Skimmer Basket

I finally got around to fixing the skimmer basket. I took a diamond cutting blade for a Dremal tool and used it in my cordless drill to cut a slot in the portion of the basket that floats. Then I just put a pin through it with a washer and clip. The slot doen't allow the the floating basket to...

Things under the bottom of the liner?

I had my liner replaced in the Fall a couple of years ago and then the next Spring I found what felt like the head of a screw under my liner in the deep end. It was poking up and I figured it would wear out the liner quicker with the cleaner running over it so I had the pool company pull the...

    New Deck

I have cedar on my deck and really like it. I don't have a problem with splinters or warping, it is comfortable to walk on and is naturally resistant to rot. I had a deck at another house that was made out of treated pine and it warped a lot, popped nails and was not very comfortable to walk on...

Anyone still adding DE to sand filters?

I add DE to my sand filter and it really helps getting the really small "floaters" that I would see in front of the light. I hardley see them anymore since adding DE. Bruce

    Stuck Skimmer Basket

No...I haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet. I have resorted to just taking the floating piece off for now.

anybody use an aftermarket RF remote?

I haven't tried this yet but want to!! You install a special rechargable battery into your existing remote and it is supposed to turn it into a wireless RF remote. That way you keep all of the functionality of the original remote. You can see it here: http://www.smarthome.com/8045i.html
