    lead content of brass

hi folks, i have been building my tub setup using, in part, 3/4" brass valves, flow meter, fittings, and so on. nearing the end of the build i was alarmed to find that a nipple i bought was labelled unsafe for drinking water. this may be a direct consequence of my living in california. in any...

will this cast iron hydraulic valve rust too much to use for bathing?

thank you duraleigh! i wasn't aware there would be contamination at the molecular (?) level.

will this cast iron hydraulic valve rust too much to use for bathing?

i have a nice cast iron valve which is rated for water (Unitite 135020). i know it wouldn't fly for potable water, but does it work for a pool or tub? a little bit of rust, i'm sure i can catch in the filter, but if any has experience with cast iron in their plumbing, i'd like to know how it went.

installing fusible link in a heater that lacks one

excellent responses folks, thank you. i am looking at diagrams of successor models to my Raypak Gemini. i guess this part is what they called "flame roll-out sensor". i cannot identify the "sway brace" yet though - is that the structural crossmember between the burner assembly and the fire box?

installing fusible link in a heater that lacks one

hi folks! someone wise pointed out that my early '80s heater has no fusible link in its millivolt circuit. OK, i thought, that's easy enough to add for extra peace of mind. i bought a "Jandy Laars Pool Heater Fusible Link Assembly R0012200". one thing it says on the side is "152C", so perhaps...

    materials suitable for flexible lines

both excellent points. gtemkin, thanks for pointing out the pressure rating (30psi for 3/4 line). the Laing E5 pump is rated at 50psi max... but would only reach that point running with zero head? zea3, good to know that's the failure mode. if i even use them, i won't bury the long flexible lines.

    materials suitable for flexible lines

thank gtemkin, that taxonomy is very helpful. so, for in my protected outdoor pumping station with a tiny pump, i will need a UV-resistant, chlorine-resistant, pressure-rated tubing, and to put it on hose barbs instead of using glue. i am leaning towards using this product: McMaster-Carr...

    materials suitable for flexible lines

thanks, you're quite right, i didn't acknowledge that flexible is the poor cousin to rigid. i figured it would be easier to work with for the long lines and that may not even be true. my real interest is at the pumping station, where i positioned a number of components in sequence: drain valve...

    materials suitable for flexible lines

hi folks. i bought a coil of flexible PVC hose here for my tub install, and soon after happened to see a small tub plumbed entirely with vinyl tubing. i read up and learned that vinyl is PVC, so their heat rating is the same. the vinyl seems easier to work with and less expensive; some even have...

has anyone used an anti dog barking device?

thank you, sausage. sounds like AC adaptor would be a necessity. i like your dog-on-dog solution.

Best setup for outdoor stereo system

i like the CSW outdoor speakers but never heard of an outdoor-rated amplifier. you may have to build an enclosure for the electronics (e.g. BT-enabled receiver) or leave them indoors. there is speaker wire rated directly for burial, no conduit needed. you won't pass code doing that for mains...
