Correct amount of chlorine for a salt water pool?

While web surfing the other day, i found a site that recommended 0.5 ppm chlorine for a salt water pool. I'm having a little trouble understanding why a salt water pool would require less than the normally recommended 1-3 ppm. Anyone have the answer? I've always set it to 3 ppm and now wonder...

    Longevity of salt cells?

Thanks for doing the math Newdude. It looks like I've got a couple more years before I'll need the replacement.

    Longevity of salt cells?

In 2007 I installed an Aqua Rite generator. In 2013 I began to get antsy about the cell failing in mid season, so I bought a replacement. The replacement is still on the shelf and the original cell from 2007 is still working just fine! How long can one expect these things to last? That's 13...

What do you pay for closing?

I'm paying $220 without chemicals or $290 with. I choose to do the pre-closing cleaning and add the chemicals myself. At $220, I feel like I'm getting a bargain.

    clearing cloudy water

Ditto on all the advice above. You seem to think that cya is only available in your chlorine tabs. That is definitely not the case. Go to Lowes, Home Depot, or your pool store and get yourself a bunch of CYA by itself...it may be called stabilizer.

    Vacation time quandry

Great information! Yes, I do have a floor drain. I'll just let the pump and SWCG run. I'll round up any dead biologicals when I return. :) Thanks for the advice.

Where to buy DE in Canada

Have you checked Lowe's? They carry it here stateside in their yard and garden section.

    Vacation time quandry

I'm in need of some advice! Normally when I go on vacation, I have a friend check the pool every couple of days to make sure that all frogs, big spiders, lizards and snakes are scooped out and that the skimmer isn't clogged up with leaves. Since this is a SWCG pool, the chemistry tends to stay...

    AquaRite Low Salt System?

I've never used anything but water softener salt. I buy mine from Lowe's and I believe you have Lowe's stores in Canada. Down here the additive free water softener salt is in a blue bag and sells for $4.99. It is called "Diamond Crystal 40-lbs Salt Solar Crystals." Good stuff and I consider...

Should SWG cell be removed in winter?

I bring mine in and carefully stuff plastic garbage bags in the open plumbing to prevent the ubiquitous mouse and/or chipmunk from using the openings as home for the winter! :-D

    Aquarite Chlorine Generator Problem

I'm not sure what you are referring to. The current limiter is the black coin shaped object near the wiring harness. Rather than trying to unsolder the old part, what I would do is clip the wire leads as close to the body of the old part as is possible. Assuming that there will be at least...

Polaris 9400, Blue Diamond, Blue Diamond RC

Chris, Our setups are similar so my experience with the BD might be useful. In brief, I've been completely satisfied and while my BD occasionally does (almost) backflips after climbing a wall, it gets the whole pool squeaky clean. No slick spots on the vinyl and no rings around the tub :-D ...
