    Frustrated & Broke!

Frustrated & Broke! No good advice for ya other than Hang In There! It's worth it! I was a BBB newbie last year and couldn't believe the bleach I went through. Enough to almost make me quit and go back to tabs. Once I realized the bit about taking two steps back when the chlorine dropped...

Worst thing ever in your pool?

Hehe we almost had a lawn mower in ours. Scuff marks on the coping here too! I didn't hear about that story for about a week after it happened. I think Hubby would have kept it to himself forever if I hadn't asked about the marks.

The pool looks beautiful! Tonight's numbers are... FC: 2.4 CC: .2 pH: 7.4 CYA: 45 TA: 90 Temp: 89* We just added the CYA this morning. I have read here that some people do not get a reading for a week or so. Why did I get one? The reading before the addition today showed >10 every time I tested...

WooHoo! Clear, sparkly pool for the past 3 days! Aside from the pine needles blown in by last nights high wind, my pool is lovely! We just got a 55gal drum of 15% bleach so we should be good to go for a while. I'm looking into some type of liquid chlorinator. Is there a thread that someone could...

    Market Umbrella Suggestions

I have this one too and we love it! Just be sure to close it when you're done. The base is plenty heavy for average use but would take off like a kite in any wind. It casts great shade!

    New pool questions

I'm a new member and am just getting my pool into shape the BBB way! That said, I don't have much advice but I can commiserate with you on the trees! We have pines ringing our property planted by the previous owner and skimming is a regular part of our lives.

Thanks for the reply. As of this morning I can see the entire bottom including the main drain area at the deepest point. It is slightly hazy but much improved. Test results show that I still can't pass the OCLT but my CCs are at 0. ph is a little low due to the dichlor I guess. I'm going to...

OK, the kit is in ( ) and I took the plunge tonight to thoroughly vacuum, brush, etc. Stirred up lots of mess but I think the filter can handle it now. I also added some clarifier (I know, I know!) because I'm in a hurry to clear up this mess. My first test results with my new kit...

Thanks Bama Rambler, I'll do that for now. I added more bleach before bed and lo and behold the water is bluish and milky this morning! Its sad that I'm excited about that but it looks much better than green! I tested with my OTO kit when I got up and got about a 2ppm so I used the Pool...

Well, after making a flying trip to Memphis because the Leslie's guy said they had the kit in stock...they didn't! And the manager actually asked me "so, what's the difference in the kits and why do you need the other one?" sheesh. I ordered a Taylor 2006 kit and I hope it arrives quickly. Until...

All is not lost! The store does not close until 7pm so I am heading out now to get the "Service test kit" aka the k-2006. Now lets see how their return policy works because I have used this kit already.

AARG! Thanks for the info on the kit. I was looking at the K-2006 trying to figure out how mine differed... Problem...not realizing this test kit mix-up, I began to shock. I live an hour away from the store that sold me the kit and there is not another location closer. Is there any way I can...

The sand filter is up and running nicely! I have begun to shock the pool by adding the recommended amount of 6% bleach. I have a problem with my new test kit though...it will not register the goal shock level of FC: 12. My kit (that I thought was a good one!) only reads up to 5! Should I be...

I have not officially added CYA as a separate ingredient, although I have used tablet type chlorine since opening the pool in early May. I have found and used the Pool Calculator. It is a great resource and very easy to understand! Thanks!

Thanks for the help! I re-ran the tests with my new kit and got... FC:1 CC:1 TC:2 pH:7.5 TA:100 CH:70 CYA: <30 I couldn't get the CYA test to obscure the dot at all. Are the differences in the values because I'm new to this or because my test kit will read differently from the store's?
