I'm definitely leaning towards a heat pump but i'm not sure what size, brand, etc i should go with. I was hoping someone might have a similar setup and could make a recommendation.

So if i can get a 240 supply to the pool what would be a recommendation for heater? As for solar, i'm afraid i just don't have the space for the panels. My yard is taken up by too much stuff already and the house is not in a convenient place to allow me to run the water to the roof and back.

Will the water get nasty though over the winter if i do that with no chemicals in it?

I thought about completely taking it apart but those poles that go around the top edge were a real pain to get in, i can't imagine being able to get them out. The sleeve they go in is just too tight.

Did I totally screw myself by emptying the pool? I didn't even think that I should have kept most of the water in. Am I safe leaving it empty, i'm mostly worried about the liner being damaged from snow and freezing water.

I've only had chlorine for about 5 days now so its hard to say but it seems pretty stable. Water is city water. We did have a bunch of rain a few days ago though too.

I just tested and got this: FC=13.5 CC=.5 CYA=70 Do I have to take a sample to a pool store to check for metal? What I don't get is why it cleared up the first time but not the 2nd.. frustrating.. my kids want to swim in it!

I'm not sure what's going on here. Can you visually tell if the cause is algae? I don't see anything on the pool liner that looks like it, it seems like the water is just green. Here's what I have done to this point: 1. Filled pool 2. Added salt 3. I remember for a day or 2 it did seem green...

I haven't turned on the swg yet, was waiting to ensure CYA was ok. I guess I can try turning it on and see what it does.

So I've been using salt test strips and I thought my levels were good but I recently got the Taylor salt test kit and that says my salt is 2x what it should be! The question is, can I just leave it and wait for my SWG to bring the level down? Or do I need to dump a bunch of water and add fresh?

If I wanted to impress myself with my EE/CS skills I'd build a waterproof box with a arduino and some rgb led's and code something that would do a display based on tunes playing on my ipod.. but I gotta build a deck first so that might not happen.. ;)

Ohhhhh.. i haven't looked at steps/ladders yet, building the deck still, but these look nice! I'm curious now what others use too! I'm also curious what wouldn't work in an intex pool. The set of steps linked look like they'd work in most.
