    CH Question?

Thanks for the replies. I am going to be adding some calcium chloride I picked up from the pool store today. I know that pool school recommends adding it to the deep end of the pool so I will be doing that, but is there a recommended way of doing it? Add into a bucket to dissolve or pour...

    CH Question?

All, I just got my Taylor K-2006 test kit in about a week or so ago and got around to testing my CH. I did the test and was 150 ppm. In looking at the recommended levels in pool school it says my plaster pool should be 250-350. When searching on the internet about the levels it says 150-400...

    Chlorine Loss Question

OCLT test done and it started at 11 ppm and in the morning was 10.5 ppm. I guess whatever was eating my chlorine is gone. Now I maintain my FC rates at 12 ppm. Any other suggestions?

    Chlorine Loss Question

Swimmer load hasnt changed and its been about 101 everyday. - - - Updated - - - I am aware of the OCLT test and will try that. I appreciate the info. My testing has been done about 5 PM each day. It just seemed weird that for the longest is has been religously dropping by 4-5 ppm each day...

    Chlorine Loss Question

Good morning all. Have a quick question for the forum. I have a CYA level of 140 and I have been having to keep my FC levels relatively high. Ranging between 12-18 ppm. Initially I was keeping the chlorine around 18 ppm and in the last month started keeping it at 12 ppm. Each day I was having a...

Chlorine Consumption - What is considered normal?

I was going to ask the same thing. I am having to keep my FC around 18ppm because my CYA is 140. I find that I am losing 5 ppm per day. Is this normal?

Added Borates to my pool, now FC reads zero

Ok I tested and CYA is 140 by doing the test you suggested. My FC is reading 5 and holding. I put chlorine in a couple days ago and have not added any since then. What do you suggest I do now? FC of 5 should not do the trick. Should I add more chlorine?

Added Borates to my pool, now FC reads zero

Thanks much. I will do that when I get home this evening. If I had algae/bacteria/virus wouldnt my water be murky or wouldnt i see signs of algae? The pool is clear as can be.

Added Borates to my pool, now FC reads zero

My wife took a sample to the pool store, so take it for what it is worth. CYA - 133 (which makes sense why my FC is low) FC - 0 They told her to add 4-5 lbs of shock and it should take care of it. We just moved in to the house in Nov and we are learning the pool world. I believe the problem...

Added Borates to my pool, now FC reads zero

It was a powder form, but it dissolved quickly. I only had a couple clumps at the bottom of the pool and we brushed them into the water. I usually brush after adding anything anyways, so it wasnt a big deal. It was super easy to add. Just make sure your PH is good before adding.

Added Borates to my pool, now FC reads zero

Adding the borates has been amazing. The water is much softer and does not dry out your skin. It also shines really well with the sun hitting it. I have noticed my PH stays in balance all the time. I am very happy that we added them. We bought boric acid and used the pool calculator to...

Added Borates to my pool, now FC reads zero

Good morning all, I added borates to my pool about 3 weeks ago and we are loving it. I have noticed that my FC readings started to decrease and now they are at zero. This is using aquacheck test strips. When I use my Taylor kit and do the DDP tablets it shows there is chlorine in it because...

    Hello from East Texas

New pool owner here. Just retired from the AF and moved back to my hometown and bought a house with a pool. We are loving it so far and I have learned a ton from this site. Thanks so much for each of you and what all you contribute. God bless. Brian
