Aluminum Sulfate to help get rid of pollen?

We have a lot of pollen in our pool. We are surrounded by pine and oak trees on two sides of our yard, so we get tons of pollen. This is our first year dealing with it, as our pool went up last June. We have vacucumned to waste, and have vacuumned with two skimmer socks and still have a lot...

Taylor K 2006 test kit question

Thanks. I know you are absolutely right. This is our first summer with the pool and it has been a major headache. I'm ready to drain it. I appreciate all the help and patience. I'll let you know how it goes.

Taylor K 2006 test kit question

Thank you for the links. I'm going to have my husband look at them too. He's ready to bomb the pool. The FC today was 19.8.

Taylor K 2006 test kit question

The refresh is adding calcium. The reason I am using refresh is because we have a lot of it. The same with the chlorine tablets. This pool has become a money pit. I know I am just a novice at this, but I want to use what I have before I switch over to the bleach. It's too expensive and I have...

Taylor K 2006 test kit question

What am I doing wrong? We added two lbs of re-fresh yesterday; 2 lbs about noon today, and we are adding another 2 lbs right now. In between, we are brushing the pool. We are using a powder that we have to mix with water called re-fresh. We also put in Yellow Treat with the first 2 lbs...

Taylor K 2006 test kit question

Here are the test resuts for this morning. We added 2 lbs of shock last night. FC is 12 CC is 5.8 CYA is 100 - This confuses me because it is so high. We are adding another 2lbs of shock this afternoon.

Taylor K 2006 test kit question

We are in the process of shocking the pool. We are battling mustard algae. I thought we got rid of it, but it's reappeared. I want to do the shock process right this time and check my FC levels. I'm going to check them in the morning. So far I only know how to test the FC, CC and CYA. My...

Taylor K 2006 test kit question

Hi again - I am trying to figure out how to use the Tayor K-2006 test kit that this site recommends. I want to check my FC and want to make sure I understand the instructions. The part that says 1 drop - .2 PPM use 25 ml sample and 1 drop - .5 PPM use 10 ml sample. Does that simply mean...

Can I pour bleach directly into the skimmer?

Using the pool calculator, I need 14 96oz bottles of bleach to bring the pool up to mustard algae shock level. We just put in two lbs of the chlorinating powder earlier this evening. Do I need to wait, or can I add the bleach tomorrow? The mustard algae is mild.

Can I pour bleach directly into the skimmer?

Really? So the Refresh is raising our CYA? We do use tablets, but to shock we use the Refresh. We read about the bleach, but have so much Refresh we wanted to use that up. I'll have to go back and read it to see how much bleach we need to shock a 17,000 gal pool. Thanks for your help.

Can I pour bleach directly into the skimmer?

We did get rid of about 90% of the mustard algae. There's just a small amount left. We are very new at this. It's our first summer with our pool. I've read the pool school. I know I have to get the FC up to a certain level. So if I don't use the chlorinating powder, what do I use? How did...

Can I pour bleach directly into the skimmer?

We use Refresh Dry Chlorinating Granular. We're putting in two pounds a night, for three days in a row for a 17,000 gal pool. I'm beginning to doubt our CYA level. We just got our Taylor 2006 Test Kit. The only thing I know how to test is the CYA. When I did it, it was about 80. Which is...

Can I pour bleach directly into the skimmer?

We've been checking the pool ever since we started battling mustard algae. We killed a lot of it. The water is very clear. However, there are still a few spots of mustard algae that we found today. Not a lot, but about maybe 10% of what we originally had. I brushed it, and we are going to...

Can I pour bleach directly into the skimmer?

Thank you! I went back and brushed the bottom and sides again. All I saw was dead algae. Glad to hear we don't have to be concerned about any algae hiding out in the filter. We don't want to go through this again! The water doesn't look too bad, but it could be a little clearer. We...
