My TA may have been a little low all summer while my PH kept going from 7.4/7.6 to 7.8 within a week (using 2 gal of 12.5% liquid). I kept bringing it down with aquachem "PH down". TF kits had my TA at a 100 while Leslie's and others had it as low as 60. Today my TF reading is around 50-60 (50 when it turns red, but it turns even more red at 60 and then the color stops changing), while leslie's reading 60-70. go figure.

I'll be closing pool within a week or two and wonder if I need to adjust TA before then. I have 4lb of AquaChem "TA Increaser", which according to aquachem should not upset PH or should not upset as much as soda ash would. I know I may need a little more than 4lb, but do I really have to adjust it now?

my current readings:
FC 3-4
pH 7.5-7.6
TA 60
CH ? (with tf kit over 500 now, used to be over 600, with 5-6 different pool stores 350-500).
CYA 40

Thanks

P.S. I've been using aquachem dual layer tabs for the last couple of weeks. Not sure if it had affect on TA, but it kept my PH at 7.6.

I wouldn't. When you open in the Spring, it'll be even lower anyway.

Your alk increaser, btw, is nothing more than baking soda. 12 Pound bags at WalMart are $8.

The "Dual Action" tabs have copper sulfate. I would discourage you from buying them again.

They are called "dual layer". According to Aquachem support I spoke to it does not contain cooper.

Keep your chems separate. This way, you know what and how much is going in your water.
