Just getting started on the conversion. How many gallons of chlorine should I add for 15,000 gallon water pool?

Welcome to TFP!

The very first thing to do is to check your PH and adjust to between 7.2 and 7.4.

You want to raise the FC level to 15. For figuring out quantities you can use the Pool Calculator. If you are using 6% bleach you need 3.75 gallons to go from 0 to 15.

Jason,

Appreciate that this forum is here to assist us with this. We have a 15K gallon vinyl splash super pool, with a cartridge filter currently. We have been using Baquicil for 7 years now. We have no experience with a chlorine based pool. Using the TF-100 test kit we received yesterday our pH is 8.2 or higher. Placing info inthe pool calculator were suppose to add 25 ounces of 31.45% muriatic acid is this correct? How long do we need to let the filter run with this addition before we should test the pH again?

For large PH changes it is best to add about 2/3rds as much as you calculate, give that 30 minutes to mix in with the pump running, and then test the level and continue adjusting from there.

Hi, Shane,
We spoke on the phone on Friday. Many of us will be around to help with your conversion. Like we discussed, have PLENTY of Chlorine on hand and be ready to test and replenish just a couple of hours after your first dose.

Ask lots of questions and post some pics of your progress if you have time. :-D
