This is the 5th year for the sand in the filter.

With your CH level there's not much possibility of calcification so don't worry about the sand.

You can stop shocking when you pass the OCLT (You lose 1ppm or less FC overnight, & You have .5ppm CC's or less) & your water is clear.

How often should the sand be changed?

The only time the sand should be changed is if it's heavily calcified. It doesn't wear out like the pool store says it does.

Received my K-2006 test kit. Check the chlorine levels at 9:05 last night:

FC-8.5
CC-.5

Check all the levels this morning at 8:15 am:
FC-8
CC-.5
PH-7.4
TA-100
CH-90
CYA-20 or less-could still slightly see the black dot with the tube completely full.

I have granular shock. Can I raise my CYA using that?

Back to the op's issue. The vast majority of the time, cloudy water means dirty water. Most often water full of algae, or dead algae. Bring your CYA level up to 30 and start shocking. The quicker you do this....the quicker the pool will clear up. Have you tried the OCLT yet? This too will show you JUST how much chlorine your pool is using to fight off any garbage that's living in your pool.

Posted on the 27th that water was clear. Water is still clear and I am keeping a close eye on my chlorine levels as to forego any future algae issues. I test daily with test strips and at least weekly with the K-2006 kit.
