Need to SLAM, just ordered testing kit.

Hahaha. I still see that bleach in the sun... Pool is looking good!

Also, if you are not removing those plants right away, at least cut them back so they're not in your water. They are a contaminant that your chlorine will fight. You want your chlorine to fight other stuff!!!

I decided to let the husband move it if I was the one up at 5:30 am playing pool girl. [emoji39]

Oh yes. Plants are on my list. That sago is not only an eye sore (I have an inexplicable hated for sagos) but it's taking up valuable real estate around the pool for chairs.

Okay, test is here! Woohoo!

Cl 5
pH 8.2

FC 4
CC .5
CH 225
TA 170
CYA 30

I need to address pH before starting SLAM right? And I ignore everything else except for FC and CC?

Pool math is saying 742 oz of muriatic acid. I picked up four quarts at Ace today. Should I go slowly?

Meg, please double-check your acid amount. For a 15K pool, I came-up with only 72 oz to go from 8.2 to 7.2. Just want to be sure with that one.

You are correct on everything else. Add the acid to adjust PH, then mix real well for 30 min and test again to confirm.

After you get the PH to 7.2-ish, SLAM! And Maintain that FC level. Then yes - focus on FC and CC. In the early part of the SLAM, if your water is green or cloudy, focus on FC mostly. Once you know you're getting close with clear water, then you can use the reagents for the CC to see if you are close to passing all 3 SLAM criteria. Good luck!

ROFL I had an extra zero in my pool gallons. Quite a difference between 155000 and 15500!

Btw, do I include the spa in my gallons?

Good. Glad we caught that "extra" digit. :) Once you know it's 7.2-ish, take your FC up to SLAM. The CYA chart shows it as FC 12 based on your CYA of 30. So let that FC cruise at 12 until you pass the SLAM. If you are away from the house for a bit and can't check as much as you would like, go up slightly higher to 14 or 16 if you need to. But keep it over 12 at all times to help you get through the SLAM efficiently. You're on your way now! Watch the transition of your water over the next few days and enjoy your weekend. Don't forget to scrub/sweep your pool and keep the pump on 24/7.

Okay so I added approximately 184 oz of bleach as pool math recommended (I say approx because I'm guesstimating on the 1/2 gal). 20 min later I tested three areas - shallow, deep and spa. Shallow was 7.5; deep was 10; spa - who knows because I stopped counting drops at 36.

I'd slowly added the bleach in front of several returns around the pool and spa. Obviously I hit the spa a bit harder than intended :/

I know I'm supposed to wait longer than 20 minutes. But I got excited to play mad scientist.

That being said, does any of the above ring any alarms for anyone? Other than me getting antsy lol
