PG,

Very nice!!!!... it takes me 10 days just to think about it.... :p

Before pools, woodworking was a passion of mine. I converted a third car garage into a small wood working shop where I can take rough-cut lumber and convert it into something useful.. I have built coffee tables, entertainment centers, hope chests, speaker enclosures, and a couple of bedroom sets... I usually use Walnut or Cherry, sometimes Quarter-sawn oak... Below is a very poor pic of a Cherry Bedroom set that I did.. No stain, just natural cherry and clear Pre-Cat lacquer.

It will be interesting to see who else might be into woodworking... Certainly a dying skill as most things are now made with sawdust, glue and painted to look like wood... :p

Thanks for posting...

Wow what a fantastic set! We were just talking today about making a chest of drawers for a space where we need a custom piece. Anything decent is running $2500 and up. I'll do that out of Cherry with Poplar for the secondary woods. Probably do 5-6 drawers. Kind of like a mission style very similar to your set. Hopefully I'll get started here in the next couple of weeks. I need to go to the sawmill and get some nice Cherry.

I'd love to see some of the closeup detail particularly the drawer joinery and drawer slides. I see a lot of people doing hand-cut dovetails but my skill level is more using a jig.

I am envious, as your location makes it much easier for you to obtain a better grade of rough-cut wood, than I can do down here.

PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a couple of pics... Not sure it will help much... I was not trying to recreate hand crafted details... All the drawers are made with jig cut dovetails and have full extension metal drawer slides.. I built it with function in mind, over trying to duplicate an 18th century design.. I'm pretty sure if the old craftsman would have had power tools and metal drawer slides they would have used them... :p

Thanks,

Jim R.

Very nice works guys!!

I have dabbled is making simple stuff a few years back with a small shop set up in one end of my basement. I never got a planer, so it limits things a bit. But I still want to get back & more into it at some point.

This was my last project at the request of my eldest boy, he has a love for the Titanic. It still needs a bit of paint, but finish work has always been my least favorite.

My profession for 40 years was a cabinet maker for a wood working company. I made more projects for people than I can count. Made many for myself that can be handed down as heirlooms. Now I don’t like to spend time in the basement except for quick small projects. I really have no desire to do this anymore. Over exposed I guess.

Rick,

Makes sense to me... I did woodworking as a hobby, because it was totally different that what I did for a living... When a hobby becomes a job, it is just not fun anymore...

I'll bet it takes me all day to do something that you can do in a few minutes...

I somehow need to lure both Brian and Jim to Tucson, then kidnap them and chain them both to inside of my home until I get the interior remodel I’ve been dreaming of.

Perhaps some form of enticement involving booze, smoked meats and loose.....slots.....

You all make it look way too easy....but I love the pictures :goodjob:
