What's your current pool temp?

Mine's at 90 degrees thanks to gas heater an new DIY in-pool solar cover. I've been experimenting with overnight heat retention and differentials because I'm using the pool for physiotherapy late into the season and will be covering with an air dome when its finished being fabricated. Unfortunately, that's still a few weeks off as the mfg is very busy and the production schedule is longer than usual.

With pump and heater off last night, I only lost 3 degrees despite a 30 degree differential. Total house including boiler and pool heater used 16 CCF in 24 hours...so about $11.50.

Hubby pointed out to an employee yesterday that however high the gas bills might get, my 45 min routine would be costing about $200 per session at the local rehab outfit ;)

We had a hot front :), temps are back in the upper 80s! Woo-hoo! Pool heats itself up to 90 every day with solar panels. The solar cover is on. Don't need the cover now but a cold front is coming Friday, back to highs in the upper 70s and lows in the mid 50s. But, sunny this weekend so we can have another pool weekend. :paddle:

I also turned off the pump overnight last spring to see about retaining heat better and it was noticeably better. I'm going 24x7 now because the trees are busy and it is back in the 70s overnight right now.

61 degrees at mid-day, in full sun, today.

Took solar cover off over a week ago, planning to drain water and fold up the pool for the winter. Now, however, am keeping it going a bit longer, since I just ordered a new Hayward pump/filter combo on Amazon (exceptionally good price) on Sunday. The new equipment should arrive tomorrow, and I plan to hook it up and run it for a few days. That should tell us if the new equipment is in good shape, rather than putting it into storage and letting the warranty run out over the winter.

Also, once the water cools down, and the kids lose interest in swimming, I confess I enjoy the pool as a sort of experimental station for these last few weeks of the season. The 2500 gph Intex pump (in my sig) died over a month ago, and we have been limping along with the measly pump that originally came with the pool. I've (semi-intentionally) let the water get a bit murky in the last two weeks, and then hooked up a vacuum hose with an old triangular vacuum head lying on the bottom of the pool, to see if the water clears up better with an improvised 'main drain' than with the normal intake high on the pool wall. It does seem to help some, when running with a pump that is too feeble to circulate the water strongly.

It will be interesting to see how the new filter works, as far as clearing the water of the dead algae and other debris!

My kids love to swim in the pool; personally, I probably get more fun out of maintaining it and fiddling with it :splash:

63 degrees here in PA...took my last swim today. I know what you're thinking.....but I fully admit to being a true die-hard when it comes to ending the season! The water looked so great, the sun was out, not a cloud in the sky (at least not until whatever Hurricane Matthew brings us), and so I could not resist the siren call of the water. Love opening, hate closing...sentiments that are undoubtedly shared by many here. So now the long wait until spring....hoping for a mild winter.

76° omg, very chilly! Made myself get in. Brrrr!
76 chilly??? I wish I had that temp..wouldn't dream of closing the pool yet!

Hovering right at 60 now... was going to close this last weekend but got lazy... Amazing how fast it has cooled off in the last weeks without a solar cover and the cool (50 degrees or less) night temperatures. I might have to take one last dip just to say I did it.
GO FOR IT!!!

From PA originally. We would go sometimes as kids to a really big public pool in Ligonier which was fed from the mountain spring water. I never remember that water being warm. I would think 76 was the highest it ever got. :)

That said, ours is hovering between 78-80 now. The grandkids and I still swimming. Air temps still in lower 80s. So figure another couple weeks. Cover definitely making a difference.

Finally put the solar cover on last night. Dropped from 86 to 83 with nighttime low of 60. Was back up to 86 in 2 hours. Supposed to warm up, so cover is coming off tomorrow.

Mid 70's this weekend with an unheated temp of 75 degrees. We heated the pool Saturday and Sunday for swimming (86 degrees) and had a blast. Cool breeze to the face while in the pool but very comfortable. We plan on firing it back up Thanksgiving week and Christmas week as well...

Mine is down to 72.

Might have to invest in one of these covers. Can you please post a pic of yours? Thanks. 
Any standard bubble cover cut down to your pool shape/size works. color doesn't matter much either. I got a blue bubble cover from amazon early in the season for around $140 if I recall correctly. With it I was keeping the pool around 80 degrees even with nights in the upper 40's/50's. But as our highs slowly sunk into the 70 degree range and sun became more scarce, I gave up and took the cover off. quickly the temp fell to 70 degrees in the water, and now I'm inching toward 60.

A cheap way to extend the swim season is to use a wet suit. I can swim in 73 degree water without a huge shock when I wear a wet suit. Water feels a lot warmer. There are long and short sleeve wet suits. I use a short sleeve.

I can swim in 73° water anytime and without a wetsuit. It's when it gets to 70 and blow when I call it quits....
