I am hoping I can leave the water in the pool and set the timer to run 4 hours or so and have the controller set to run the pump if the outside temp gets to 35. Good idea or bad? In Arkansas so it won't get really cold for a couple of months so what tips do you guys have?? Chemicals etc.?

If you never have any really hard freezes you will be fine as long as the pump is running when it is below freezing. On the other hand if it goes down to, for example, 20 and stays there for a couple of days you could have serious problems unless you keep the equipment warm somehow.
When the water temperature goes below 50 degrees you can cut the pump back to one hour a day.
