I am not sure this is the right forum for these questions. If not can a moderator please move it to the right spot. How often do people take apart their DE filters and really clean them? Also what is used to clean the filters just water? finally what lubricant are people using today on the orings/gaskets? :?:

Most people beak them down and clean them once a year unless there's a problem.
Automatic dishwasher detergent is the common cleaner used in cleaning DE filters.
Silicone pool lube is the best thing to use.

Have you read use and care of a DE filter in Pool School.

You have passed the OCLT when: 1)You lose 1ppm or less FC overnight, & 2)You have .5ppm CC's or less, & 3)your water is clear.

I did read the info on de filters. I was just curious since my other pools were sand filters. I also saw a film on you tube of how to clean a de filter. The person in that film said "Do not use silicone lube but to use teflon lube". That is why I asked about lubricant for o-rings and gaskets. I will have to go back and see what type of lube he was using.

Silicon pool lube is safe on all rubber and plastic parts and that's why it's recommended. I've seen teflon lubes that have petroleum bases and they wouldn't be good on the rubber.

Thanks I appreciate the info. Is there a particular brand that you use? The guy in the film was using Teflon Magic Lube. I searched the internet and found they make a silicon lube also called Magic Lube II.
