What's the pH, Alk, Free Cl, Total Cl, Calcium and CYA levels?

A pic of the splotches helps. If they are hi res, a link to a photobucket account (free) will help.

Scott

Hi Richard,

Yep, as Scott said, we need more info.

You can go to Pool School to help with the info needed.

Also remember to add your location (city/state).

If you do not have one of the Recommended Test Kits, just take the water sample to a pool store for testing for now.
Without test results, we do not know if your chlorine levels are high or not. It is relative to your CYA levels.

Lots of folks around here to help you get your pool sparkling and safe.

Welcome to the forum

You're done shocking when:
1)You lose 1ppm or less FC overnight, & 2)You have .5ppm CC's or less, & 3)your water is clear.

Normally the chlorine level will drop over time on its own. How high is "high"?

A high chlorine level doesn't normally cause staining, that usually means other things are out of balance, which is why Scott and Butterfly were asking about those things.

Do you routinely use algaecide containing copper?
