Going to start conversion this afternoon once PH is under control. Currently 7.8. Have to buy more acid after work. Pool has been on Baquacil for the past 5 years. We purchased the house in May and started working on the pool right a way. Had the water tested before we started and they told us that it had a Baquacil reading of 50. They suggested we leave on Baquacil since it was so high. That was the first mistake because now I just continue to dump money and Baqua product into the water. Water has already turned green because I quit fighting it and I knew I was going to start conversion as soon as test kit arrived. Received TF100 test kit this morning.
I will try to post pics of the before, during and after of the conversion.

Yes, I have read through the guide numerous times and read what others have gone through. I'm ready to get this over with and back to swimming.
This is a great forum for pool owners. Basically made my decision to convert after visiting tfp.

PH 7.8 TA 170-180 Added 75 oz. of muriatic acid. How long do I need to wait before I check PH again? It's pretty green after I quit adding the Baquacil products. But that's about to change!!! Attachment: IMG_1.jpg Attachment: IMG_2.jpg Attachment: IMG_3.jpg

You can test the PH again after half an hour with the pump on.

Less than 24 hrs after initial dose of chlorine. Can already see the drains on the deep end. Attachment: IMG_0747.jpg Attachment: IMG_0750.jpg Attachment: IMG_0751.jpg

Still less than 24 hrs. into the process. I started around 5:00pm yesterday. CC is slowly but steadily coming down (CC 5). Heading back to store to get more chlorine. Just when you think you have enough, buy 12 more jugs. Can I run the polaris to do my sweeping for me while this process is taking place? We had a big storm last night and I have some debris that needs swept up. I don't see any of the "Baquagoo" like others have mentioned. Is that something that will likely show up a little later in the process? Attachment: IMG_0755.jpg Attachment: IMG_0756.jpg

Thanks for the advice. How do you go about cleaning your pool sweeper before introducing it back into the water?

27 hrs in. I have used 19 of the 182 oz. jugs and 7 of the 96 oz. jugs CC started out at 12 and is currently at 2.5 Had to order a new pump. Bearings going out. Hopefully it will keep running until new pump gets here. I would get this one fixed but need to keep on with the conversion. Still have some cleaning to do but we are getting there. Wish I would have found this forum before we opened the pool up on Baquacil. Thanks TFP! Attachment: IMG_0758.jpg Attachment: IMG_0759.jpg Attachment: IMG_0760.jpg

Nice job! It's going really fast, especially considering the high level of Baquacil you had. Congrats on your progress!

Wow! You made that look painless! Probably because you did your research and knew what to expect. Congrats on your new BBB pool .. You'll love it

It has gone really quick and painless other than driving back and forth to the store for more chlorine. I gave up on adding Baquacil product for about week before I started the conversion. Pool was fairly green before I started. I haven't encountered the dreaded Baquagoo others have mentioned. It really has been a breeze.
CC has been holding steady at 2.5. I'm going to try to get the pool completely cleaned up tonight, add bleach to a level of 15 and test again in the morning. I will post the results of the test tonight and morning results and see what you guys think.

Ever since we opened the pool up in May on baquacil we have had this hard creamy/white colored substance on the walls and the floor of the pool. We just bought the house and it was like this when I took the cover off. I've tried a wire algae brush to knock it loose but it doesn't seem to work. The only way I can get it to release is to use a hard plastic blunt object and scrape on it. The stuff will flake off and sink to the bottom. Any idea what this is and how to remedy it? Pool guy told us that switching to chlorine would take care of the problem we are having with this hard stuff. Attachment: IMG_0768.jpg Attachment: IMG_0769.jpg On a better note the conversion is coming along great. CC is now at 1.

That sounds like calcium scaling. If you can get a piece of it out of the pool, and put a drop of muriatic acid on it, it will foam up if it is calcium scale.

It foamed up just like you said it would. Now what do we do to get rid of it? Lots of elbow grease I suppose?
