It's about time to close our pool for the season (my first closing). I had intended to add 50ppm of borates (by using the borax & muriatic acid method), but just didn't get around to it. I was thinking the algistatic effects of having borates added would help keep the pool cleaner through the winter until I re-open.

Should I go ahead and add? Or just save it for next season when I re-open? I understand that I will likely have to test the borates level and add more come Spring due to draining for closing and refilling and I am fine with that. Water temp is around 70 now if that makes any difference.

Thanks,
Garry

I'd just wait until you open in the spring.
