I just got a pool that has been closed for 5 years. It has a sand filter. What do I need to do to get that sand filter up to par? I live in West Africa.

Welcome to TFP!
Sand filters don't need much attention. If it was backwashed before the pool stopped being used it is probably just fine. If it was left dirty it might have some matted debris on top of the sand, but some extra backwashing will probably take care of that.
